Hmong American Peace Academy

General Info

HAPA stands for Hmong American Peace Academy which includes all of our preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school programs. HAPA is an innovative school based on an integrated triangular learning framework. Hmong heritage including the language, culture, and history components act as one side of the triangle. Side two of the triangle is a strong standards-based curriculum. The third side of the triangle is a community peace program known as Peacebuilders. Together, these programs form a powerful framework for educating scholars in a transformational way.

Scholars not only learn who they are beginning with their cultural roots, they also learn how to succeed where they are in place and time. Furthermore, scholars develop positive attitudes toward themselves and others so that they can function in the community as peaceful citizens. There is a lot more to HAPA than what the framework reveals. HAPA also develops scholars beyond their time in the classroom through field experiences, afterschool programs, community partnerships that build on classroom learning, and family participation in Saturday events. HAPA’s motto in the community is “Come build peace with us.”

HAPA is a K4-12 charter school. Its high school is a career and college preparatory school. Its first senior class was in 2012. Growth and expansion doesn’t stop there. In 2021, HAPA opened its new 99,000 square foot high school to support 900 scholars in grades 9-12. The school provides the broader community and HAPA scholars a high-quality education with state-of-the-art classrooms, gymnasiums, resource centers and more.

HAPA offers a unique environment. The coursework is geared toward preparing all scholars for college entry and success. Electives are channeled into a career study that gives the scholar advanced experience in a professional field of study.

Mentorship is also provided to assist scholars in reaching college entry expectations. Scholars are encouraged to take advantage of precollege programming offered at local and state Universities throughout the school year and summer months. High standards, channeled electives, mentorship, and pre-college opportunities all consolidate to produce well-prepared graduates who can meet the challenges of postsecondary schooling.
